You may not consider yourself to be a writer, let alone a journal keeper.  The thought of journaling might seem overwhelming. Or perhaps you can’t stomach the thought due to the fact that life is already too busy and chaotic.  Nonetheless, I ask you to reconsider. Keeping a journal can have immense value in your life in three main ways:

1.Record the Past

Recollecting your thoughts and memories through the process of writing offers the opportunity for moments of gratitude. You can revisit the things of value in your life.  Precious memories can be re-lived and not forgotten in future times through the habit of journaling.

2. Capture the Future

All those great ideas must be captured before they slip away and journaling provides the means of recording for later reflection.  Keeping a journal can help you grow as a better communicator while learning how to put your thoughts into words.

3.Enrich the Present

Journaling gives you a mirror for reflection upon yourself, your lives, and/or your dreams.  In the present, you can draw and disentangle your thoughts and emotions through journal keeping.

As you can see, keeping a journal has immense value above simply cataloging past achievements.  How exactly you journal will vary greatly from person to person. There is no right or wrong way to go about it.  One may utilize a computer with a blank word document or the good old-fashioned paper and pen. It may be formal or informal, long or short, simple or deep.  The most important thing to know is that journaling is for you. Most people will never read what you write within your journal and that is ok. Take the pressure off yourself by writing for yourself and for your own growth and enjoyment.  Another helpful tip is to keep it simple and consistent. Don’t try to “catch up.” The best lifelong journals are often “incomplete.”

I hope these words have shed some light on the value of journaling.  Make it yours and enjoy the journey.  I know I have seen the fruit of  making journaling a habit in my own life. Please check out our websiteYouTube channel, and Facebook for more content.
